Road Trip
Took the kids on a weekend road trip a few weeks ago.
31 miles on the odometer of the rental car when I picked it up.
What’s in the bag? We weren’t at our destination 5 minutes before Evren talked me into buying him some souvenirs.
There was a pottery fair going on with a children’s area. A chunk of gray clay and these kids couldn’t be happier. There was literally sobbing when we had to leave this area. I should’ve taken photos of the finished products …true art.
They are playing with a stuffed snake that Evren’s grandpa bought for him, which he immediately fell in love with and named Snakey.
Move the Hell Over
I’m thinking if you do a lot of traveling this summer, this would be a great site to visit first to get you hooked up with one of these awesome stickers.

Road Trip
The kids and I went on a little road trip this past weekend to visit family. We stayed in a hotel which was a REALLY BIG DEAL and great fun was had by all. Here are the highlights…
We got to the hotel really late so after the initial excitement, they crashed out. They were so adorable with their teddy bears that I turned the light on to take a picture.
We went to a grocery store at some point and got lots of finger prints on the glass looking at the desserts we wanted.
We did some tourist-y stuff after that. Here’s the Evren posing on his animal of choice on the carousel.
At one point during our excursion, Evren exclaimed, “MOM! I LOVE SHARKS AND SKELETONS AND EXPLOSIONS!!!”
Ayla made a new friend.
Fun in the hotel pool.
And here was the event that led Evren to have his THIRD shower in two days. We were taking a break in the hotel room, the kids were eating their lollipops, watching tv and I was sitting on the couch reading a magazine. Then Evren comes up to me like this and says solemnly, “Uh, mom? I think I have a problem.”
I had no choice but to grab the camera! OMG it was hilarious. He didn’t think so at first, he was seriously worried, but I think I finally got him to see the humor in it.
Evren asked, “Mom, can I take my book with me to the restaurant?” I said, “Sure, honey.” He did a little light reading before the meal came.
In case you can’t tell from the photo…while the rest of us were trying to decide what to have for breakfast, Evren was completely entranced by this fully dissected ‘view from the top’ of the human brain. His favorite page is the one of the human heart and he “really, really hopes’ he gets a book about eardrums for his birthday.
And then we came home. The end.
Flea Market Weekend Photos
A weekend at the flea market with my super cool mom….we had a great time and I’m completely exhausted. I actually didn’t buy that much. A few small things here and there and some little stuff for the kids. Here are some of the highlights…
Fried Twinkies. Oh yes. They were also selling fried pickles and fried oreos. We seriously considered buying a fried twinkie just to see what it looked like.
…and don’t forget the Fried Cabbage. Yum.
We did have a funnel cake and then we did a lot of shopping and we saw a lot of great stuff and ALOT of hideous things.
Like this…
And this gorgeous artwork…
Then, in all seriousness, I LOVED this outhouse and if I could’ve I would have brought this home to put in the back yard. Wouldn’t that have been the greatest?!!
And finally, when we were exhausted (well, actually the place closed down and we were forced to leave) we reluctantly left and this awesome Chevy Impala was parked near us.
Who’s coming with me next time?
If You Think Your Commute Is Bad…
Last night my brother Dave (Unkle Dave around here) had THE WORST COMMUTE EVER on his way home from work. He left work at 5:10pm and arrived home at 2:10am. NINE HOURS. His average commute during rush hour is one hour and without traffic it takes him 30 minutes. He didn’t go into work today, needless to say. Here are some excerpts from his e-mails about the ordeal…
“…People were slipping, sliding and getting stuck like crazy on the freeway last night. It was kind of like scenes from an apocalyptic movie or something – people abandoning their cars, both on the side of the road and right in the middle of the freeway, walking who knows where because there’s nothing along the sides of that stretch of freeway – tow trucks everywhere (didn’t see many troopers, just a couple) – everyone else having to drive around the abandoned cars. It is completely ridiculous that the freeway backups were that bad – yeah there was snow, and eventually ice, and accidents, but 9 hours to go 21 miles? Actually, more like 8.5 hours to go all of 5 miles. There were other backups around the area that were almost as bad. Shouldn’t there be better plans in place for times like this? After about Hour 5 I kind of zoned out, went on autopilot. Tara stayed up, we called each other several times. When I got home, Tara met me halfway up the hill with a peanut butter sandwich, since I hadn’t had anything to eat. Before I left work I grabbed a couple little packages of snack cookies and a bottle of water – and also filled up my gas tank since it was just below a quarter tank – I’m glad [I did]. …”
Obviously he lives in an area that isn’t used to this kind of weather, but COME ON.
We’re glad you’re safe Unkle Dave.
